Nagoya Sumo Tournament

At the End of the Tourny
This was quite the experience.  The day started off with some of the lesser known dudes fighting, then ended with a fight for the top spot of all the wrestlers, which doesn’t happen to often.

I forgot to explain the rules: Basically the first guy to step out of the ring, or touch the ground with any other part of his body than his feet loses.  Oh yeah, and no biting.

Sumo Slideshow (17 pics)

This is the opening ceremony where all the Sumo wrestlers are called by name into the ring (hand-made from clay new, for every tourney) in their formal gowns which have their sponsors written on the front.

3 videos of fights after the break.

The Chaplin Factory

There are lots of videos being churned out from the Kai Factory lately, but not really enough time to get them all smoothed out and pretty for the masses.

You might have noticed videos here and there, hiding in the corners of this blog: like the side bar to the right, and new menu option on the video player. I didn’t really explain where everything was because (1) I didn’t have time and (2) I thought I would be fun for you guys to poke around the site on your own. Ya know, get a little adventurous and click on stuff.

Anyway, I should be throwing up some more random, but funny videos we have recorded in the recent weeks. Now I have to run off to study Japanese at the YWCA school. Yeah I know, seems kinda weird that there is a YWCA in Nagoya, Japan, but it’s true. That is the name of the school I am taking classes at now.

I wonder if they actually are affiliated with the YWCA’s of America? Anyone know how to say that in Japanese?

Meet up with some Sumo Dudes
It’s 30 mins before we leave, and I thought we would never make it. We had a lot of problems with our flight, including Typhoons, cancelations, ticket issuing complications, and so on, but we finally have our ticket after going through 3 versions of it in less than one day (the day before we leave).

Anyway, we will be getting home Monday evening, after going through Tokyo, LA, and JFK, with a total trip time of 26hrs! YES, super siked. Wish us luck, and hope that we can retain our minds along this very long trip.

Peace.

A.K. & A.

Crawling Update

May 30, 2007 · Leave a Comment

This is what Kai looks like when he is crawling though the Internet. Watch out, he might get into your hard drive! I swear, the farther back you stand, the more it looks like him.  I could spot that cute-baby-mohawk from a mile away.
Kai in Txt

June 1st Update: Kai is on the move! Last night I witnessed a full fledged crawl: hands and legs were both moving at the same time. He successfully got himself from one side of the room to the other and did it almost entirely without resting on his stomach. It was amazing to watch him figure out the movement finally and all it took was a little incentive (his pacifier). It has been almost a week of trial and error, with the birth of many new positions, including the confidence to sit unattended. Now he can manage to do it all by himself while moving around the house with no real problems, but you should see him when he finishes. He looks like he just got done running a couple of kilometers, which is probably due to that big belly he has to tote around. (more…)
